WHAT WE DO

The Mission:

Provide essential support and services to families of Southwest Michigan affected by childhood cancer. We ensure no family fights alone by providing services that bring families together and raise awareness for the cause by advocating for increased pediatric cancer research funding and improved cure rates.

WHO WE ARE

We are the support system that kids and families need to face a pediatric cancer diagnosis. Since our founding in 2012, we have been determined to make an impact by empowering each child with the confidence and encouragement needed to get through treatment. The core of our efforts is to bring joy and hope to each child and provide a place where they feel supported. Through all of our endeavors we hope to display the conviction behind our beliefs.

SUPPORT

When a family is thrust into a cancer diagnosis, support is crucial to endure the shock and life-changing experiences. CFU provides support in ways that let families know they are not alone and that help is available whenever needed. Having an organization dedicated to childhood cancer allows patients, caregivers, and families a place for shared experiences and community

at a time when they can feel isolated and alone.

ADVOCACY & AWARENESS

Keeping the public aware of childhood cancer statistics, funding, and available clinical trials is critical to the CFU mission. Meeting with legislators at the state and federal level, as well as participating in advocacy campaigns in Washington D. C.,  offers hope for better outcomes to patients and their families.

PROGRAMS FOR FAMILIES

Cancer Families United is in the business of changing and shaping lives. The work we do is aimed at providing meaningful support to alleviate some of the stress and burden cancer families endure. We work closely with clinic staff to ensure patient needs are met and families have access to all services.

NO MORE CHEMO
CELEBRATION

CFU is dedicated to helping pediatric cancer survivors celebrate the end of chemotherapy treatment with a custom party. We believe that this is a special and important moment that should be recognized and celebrated. Our Survivor Celebrations are part of our mission to provide support and care to families who have been affected by childhood cancer.

WARRIOR WISHES

CFU created Warrior Wishes specifically for patients who have relapsed their cancer diagnosis to provide them a special wish or experience. These are custom ideas such as a birthday party, special trip to a local establishment or an item that will help them endure another treatment, like new iPad or camera. Helping children who are facing relapsed cancer is a unique opportunity that CFU is honored to provide. Sometimes, these are the last experiences the child

lives to see.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

At CFU, we understand the challenges that pediatric cancer patients and their families face. That's why we're proud to offer a brand new program for 2024: a custom-created birthday celebration for the children. Whether it's during treatment or after, we want to bring joy to their lives and make an unforgettable memory. Best of all, this program is absolutely free to the families.

FAMILY EVENTS

Cancer treatment is a lonely and isolating experience. CFU provides family events at no cost to any patient or their family being treated at Bronson Pediatric Hematology/Oncology clinic. These private events provide an environment for families to meet one another who share a common life experience and offer a safe space to feel comfortable stepping out of the hospital environment.

TESTIMONIALS

"There are so many things we could say about Cancer Families United in how they reach out to newly diagnosed families and those that have been down the road before. When our 12-year-old daughter, Caitlyn, was going through treatment for relapsed high-risk leukemia, she posted on her Instagram that she wanted donuts,

not just any donuts but Gull Meadow Farm donuts.

Mary Kay, one of the founding persons, saw her post

and made that happen. Then again, as we were concentrating on what were Caitlyn’s last days,

CFU members  made sure our family  was

taken care of by  providing things we had not

thought of or even realized we needed.

We are forever grateful for CFU for all they

have done and continue to do."
